Domestic Abuse & Sexual Violence Can Happen to Anyone

But too often, men are made to feel like they won’t be believed, or that abuse “shouldn’t” happen to them.

At The Blue Door we provide specialist, trauma-informed support for men and boys who have experienced or are experiencing:

Domestic abuse

Domestic abuse can affect anyone, regardless of gender. It can involve physical harm, threats, emotional abuse, or control by a partner, ex-partner, or family member. If you’re frightened or being controlled, it’s abuse and you have the right to safety and support.

Sexual violence or abuse

Sexual violence can include rape, sexual assault, or any sexual activity that happens without your consent. Men and boys can be victims too, and your experience is valid. We offer confidential, specialist support for anyone affected, whether it happened recently or in the past.

Coercive control, psychological abuse, stalking or harassment

These forms of abuse are about power and control. You might feel constantly watched, monitored, or isolated from friends and family. You may receive unwanted messages or be followed. Our team can help you understand what’s happening and plan for your safety.

Tech-based abuse, financial control, or sexual exploitation

Abuse isn’t always physical. It can involve someone tracking your phone, controlling your money, sharing images without consent, or pressuring you into sexual activity. If someone is using technology or resources to control or exploit you, that’s abuse and we can help.

Our services are confidential, inclusive, and open to all men, including gay, bisexual, trans, non-binary, disabled and male-identifying survivors.

You have the same right to support as anyone else. Every service we offer is open to men and tailored to meet your needs, including:

Initial needs and risk assessments

IDVA and ISVA support

One-to-one outreach and advocacy

Counselling and therapeutic services

Safety planning

Support navigating police, courts, housing and safeguarding systems

Group support and wellbeing programmes

We understand that being a male survivor can bring unique challenges.

You may:

Struggle with shame, self-blame or fear of being judged

Feel pressure to “stay strong” or not speak about what happened

Fear not being believed or taken seriously

Experience mental health difficulties, isolation, or suicidal thoughts

Be a father and worried about contact, safeguarding or parenting

We recognise these barriers and we’re here to support you without judgement, pressure or assumptions. Our team is trained to support male survivors safely, sensitively, and respectfully.

Some men prefer support in spaces where they feel completely understood. That’s why we offer men-only options, including:

Facilitated groups where you can:

Connect with other male survivors in a safe, supportive environment

Share experiences (only if you feel ready, there’s never any pressure)

Learn tools to manage trauma, anger, shame or anxiety

Feel less isolated and more empowered in your recovery

These groups are built around trust, confidentiality and peer support.

Practical, therapeutic group sessions that focus on:

Rebuilding confidence and self-esteem

Understanding the impact of abuse and trauma

Managing stress, emotions and mental health

Creating a positive future after abuse

Our team includes practitioners who are specially trained in supporting male survivors.

Whether you’ve just left an abusive situation or are still living with it whether the abuse happened last week or years ago you deserve help.

You don’t need to have reported it. You don’t need to be in crisis. You just need to be ready to talk.

We will believe you. We will support you. And we will stand beside you without judgement.
