Support for LGBTQIA+ People

But if you’re LGBTQIA+, you may face additional barriers to recognising abuse, speaking out, or accessing support.

At The Blue Door, we provide specialist, inclusive, and trauma-informed support to LGBTQIA+ people who have experienced:

Domestic abuse from a partner, ex-partner, family member or carer

Sexual violence or abuse recent or historic, in relationships or from strangers

Coercive control, stalking, honour-based abuse or threats of ‘outing’

Abuse linked to identity, gender expression, or internalised shame

Conversion practices or faith-based abuse

You are not alone. We are here to support you safely, confidentially and without judgement.

You might:

Be afraid to disclose abuse due to fear of being judged, misunderstood or ‘outed’

Have had past experiences of discrimination by services or family

Struggle to recognise abuse in your relationship due to lack of representation

Feel isolated or worry your identity won’t be respected

Be unsure whether services are really inclusive

Experience mental health challenges, shame, or low self-worth linked to trauma and identity

We know that LGBTQIA+ people often face added layers of stigma, invisibility and silence when seeking support. That’s why our service works to make sure you are seen, heard and believed.

We welcome survivors of all identities, including lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, intersex, asexual, non-binary and gender-diverse people.

Our services include:

Initial needs and risk assessments

IDVA and ISVA support (domestic abuse and sexual violence)

Counselling and therapeutic support

LGBTQIA+-inclusive group support

Support with housing, safety planning and access to refuge

Ongoing advocacy with police, health, and other agencies

All support is confidential, inclusive and trauma-informed. You don’t need to have reported the abuse or be in a relationship now. We will support you as you are.

Our team is trained in LGBTQIA+ awareness and cultural competency. We are committed to creating safe, affirming spaces where your identity is respected and your lived experience is understood.

We offer:

Peer-led or facilitated groups exclusively for LGBTQIA+ survivors

Space to connect with others who “get it”

No pressure to share, just a space to be, listen, and heal

Queer-affirming creative, mindfulness or therapeutic sessions

Focused on identity, empowerment and healing from trauma

Designed with and for LGBTQIA+ survivors

Where possible, we offer groups and one-to-one support delivered by LGBTQIA+ practitioners or allies, in consultation with LGBTQIA+ survivors and community partners.

Whether the abuse happened recently or in the past, in a same-sex, opposite-sex, or non-binary relationship, you deserve help.

We will never ask you to hide your identity to access support. We are committed to inclusion, dignity and survivor-led care.

We’re here to help you take the next step, when you’re ready.
