The Authentic Voice Group
At The Blue Door, we believe that people with lived experience of domestic abuse and sexual violence should be at the heart of shaping the services that support them.
Real Experiences. Real Change.
Our Authentic Voice Group brings together survivors who use their experience to create positive change, for individuals, families, and the wider community.
Who We Are
The Authentic Voice Group is made up of people who have used or been supported by The Blue Door and other local services. Members come from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences, reflecting the diversity of our community.
Together, they use their insight and expertise to:
Help shape how domestic abuse and sexual violence services are delivered
Offer advice and feedback to professionals, partners, and commissioners
Support events and awareness campaigns
Make sure that survivor voices are heard and respected in every part of the system
Our members include people from a variety of minority and marginalised groups, ensuring that different perspectives and experiences are represented in all the work we do.

What the Group Does
The Authentic Voice Group meets at least once a month to discuss projects, share ideas, and work together on improving support for others.
Recent activities have included:
Meeting with local council commissioners to help design and improve domestic abuse services
Sharing feedback with health services on survivors’ experiences of care and support
Supporting the distribution of Christmas gifts to individuals and families using Blue Door services
Speaking with directors and senior strategists to influence decisions and raise awareness of survivors’ needs
Contributing to training sessions and public events that promote understanding and compassion in professional practice
Through this work, the group helps ensure that The Blue Door’s services, and the wider network of partner agencies, remain responsive, inclusive, and survivor-centred.
