What is Domestic Abuse?

Regardless of gender, age, ethnicity, sexuality, disability, or social background.

Domestic abuse is recognised as a serious crime and a public health issue. It goes beyond physical violence and includes emotional, psychological, sexual, financial, and economic abuse, as well as coercive and controlling behaviour.

The Blue Door can provide support to anyone in North Lincolnshire who has experienced domestic abuse or is worried about their relationship. Contact our Support team to see how we can help.

Domestic abuse can include (but is not limited to):

Emotional abuse

Constant criticism, manipulation, humiliation, or threats.

Physical abuse

Hitting, slapping, choking, or use of weapons.

Sexual abuse

Forcing or pressuring someone into sexual acts without consent.

Financial abuse

Controlling finances, stealing money, preventing someone from working.

Coercive control

A pattern of intimidation, degradation, isolation, and control with the use or threat of physical or emotional abuse.

Tech abuse

Using digital technologies to harass, monitor, or control a partner (e.g., spyware, tracking devices, online abuse).
