Support and Counselling
Counselling Services
Counselling is an umbrella term that covers a range of talking therapies. We offer specific therapies for victims of domestic abuse, sexual violence and childhood sexual abuse, which includes one to one counselling, pre-trial therapy and group programmes designed to support you through your recovery.
In counselling sessions you can explore various aspects of your life and feelings after abuse or trauma. Our counsellors are person-centred, which means they work with you to find your own ways of recovering, and will support you with empathy, understanding and care, without any judgement.
Pre-trial therapy gives you a space to explore the impacts of your experiences without compromising any investigations or ongoing trials. Therapy during this time can help you through the added pressures that investigations and trials can bring, and may give you tools to use in your daily life to help you with stress, anxiety, anger, fear or frustration.
The Sexual Violence Recovery Toolkit is a group that is designed to help you develop new coping mechanisms, to learn about how sexual violence may have affected you and to understand how to manage those impacts. Your experiences may have left you feeling lonely or different, and meeting other people with similar experiences can help you in your journey towards recovery.
Recovery is different for everyone. You might not feel like counselling is right for you, or you might not feel you are ready to take that step. Try to be patient and understanding with yourself when things are difficult, and take each day as it comes.
